Ivan currently serves as Chief Patent Counsel at Argonne National Laboratory, where he oversees patent and intellectual property strategy for one of the world’s leading scientific research institutions. His work spans patent portfolio management, technology transfer, licensing, strategic partnerships, and commercialization across advanced and emerging technologies, including batteries, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and software-intensive systems.
Throughout his career, Ivan has operated at the intersection of law, technology, and business, advising organizations on IP strategy, technology transactions, and the monetization of innovation. His experience includes intellectual property and technology licensing, patent portfolio development, software and open-source licensing, trademark and copyright matters, and IP litigation strategy. This breadth enables him to guide organizations through both early-stage innovation and large-scale commercialization efforts.
Ivan began his legal career as a contract attorney at Steptoe & Johnson LLP, before practicing as an IP Attorney at Michael Best & Friedrich LLP. He later moved in-house, serving as Patent Counsel and Senior IP Counsel at Hewlett-Packard, where he supported global technology portfolios and licensing initiatives. Prior to joining Argonne, Ivan served as Executive Director of Intellectual Property at JPMorgan Chase, leading IP strategy for a large, technology-driven financial services organization.
Ivan holds a BS in Computer Information Systems from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a JD from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
As a member of the Patlytics Advisory Board, Ivan will provide strategic guidance on how AI-powered tools can support patent portfolio strategy, technology licensing, commercialization readiness, and cross-functional collaboration, particularly for organizations managing complex, high-value innovation across research, enterprise, and public-sector environments.
