Patlytics, the AI-powered platform for the full patent lifecycle, announced today that Jeff Tang, Chief Intellectual Property Counsel at Circle, has joined the company’s Advisory Board. Jeff brings more than a decade of experience spanning in-house IP leadership, technology transactions, patent strategy, and portfolio development across financial services, enterprise technology, and government, making him the perfect advisor to support Patlytics’ mission to modernize IP workflows through advanced AI.
Jeff currently serves as Chief IP Counsel at Circle, a global financial technology platform, where he leads intellectual property strategy across a rapidly evolving, highly regulated technology environment. Prior to Circle, Jeff was Vice President of Intellectual Property at BlackRock, where he oversaw IP strategy for one of the world’s largest asset management organizations. He also served as lead counsel for the BlackRock Artificial Intelligence Lab, advising on advanced AI initiatives and data-driven technologies. Earlier in his career, he held roles as Associate Counsel at ICAP, IP and Patent Attorney at IBM, and Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), providing him with an incredible rare and valuable perspective on the patent system from examination through commercialization.
Jeff’s practice spans a broad range of IP and transactional work, including global portfolio strategy, technology and patent licensing, open source governance, clean room development, partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, and trademark and copyright matters. His experience operating at the intersection of legal, technical, and business teams enables him to guide organizations through complex IP decisions while aligning strategy with commercial objectives.
With his ability to build cross-functional trust and lead high-performing teams, Jeff has advised boards and executive leadership on IP risk, monetization, and long-term technology strategy across multiple industries. His background across both traditional enterprise technology and modern financial platforms gives him both perspective and ideas on how IP strategy must evolve in fast-moving markets.
Jeff holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, a JD from New York Law School, and an MBA from Cornell University. Jeff has been recognized as a recipient of the IAM 300 Strategy and IAM Global Leaders awards for his leadership in intellectual property strategy.
