Patlytics, the AI-powered end-to-end patent platform, today announced the appointment of Paul S. Grewal, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary of Coinbase, to its Advisory Board. A highly respected legal leader with experience across the judiciary, private practice, and technology law, Grewal brings a deep, senior, and multidisciplinary perspective to Patlytics’ mission.

Grewal served as a law clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, followed by many years in private practice (including as a partner at Howrey LLP) with a focus on intellectual property and high-stakes litigation. He went on to serve as a U.S. Magistrate Judge in the Northern District of California from 2010 to 2016, where he participated on the court’s Technology Practice and Patent Rules committees.

In 2016, Grewal joined Facebook as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, overseeing litigation, regulatory, and commercial legal strategy. In 2020, he stepped into his current role at Coinbase, where he leads the company’s legal, compliance, and government relations functions during one of the most important periods in crypto regulation. He also serves as a director at Epiq and formerly sat on the board of Zapproved (acquired in 2023). Grewal holds a B.S. in Civil & Environmental Engineering from MIT and a J.D. from the University of Chicago.

Paul is joining Patlytics because he recognizes the transformative potential of AI in complex legal workflows, particularly in intellectual property. As someone with extensive experience in both law and technology, he recognizes Patlytics’ unique position to bring clarity and efficiency to areas that have historically been labor-intensive and opaque. The company’s strong market traction, adoption among top firms, and the depth of its current advisory board made the opportunity especially compelling. Paul is committed to helping Patlytics scale responsibly, ensuring that its technology not only accelerates analysis but also delivers better outcomes for attorneys, clients, and the broader IP ecosystem.
