Q&A with Ken Huang: VP of Marketing

Q: What made Patlytics the right opportunity for your next chapter after building go-to-market teams at high-growth companies?
Ken: What convinced me was the vision Paul and Arthur have been building toward from the beginning. For decades, patent work has been manual, expensive, and largely invisible outside the profession, but it’s at the crux of advancing global innovation. Rather than stitching together point solutions, they built a purpose-built platform across the patent lifecycle with practitioner oversight at every step to fundamentally change how IP outcomes are delivered. That discipline matters in a market where trust and precision are everything.
The proof is already there. More than half of the Am Law 100 uses Patlytics alongside leading corporate IP teams. The biggest opportunity now is helping the market understand what an AI-native patent platform actually makes possible. That’s the opportunity I came here to scale.
Q: What attracted you to the opportunity to define the future of AI-powered patent work?
Ken: A partner reviewing a claim chart doesn’t simply accept the output, they verify every citation and every conclusion. Very few AI platforms are designed to withstand that level of scrutiny.
Patlytics is. Every output is citation-backed, traceable to source, and built with attorney oversight throughout the workflow. That gives customers confidence, and it gives marketing something increasingly rare in AI: evidence. When the product can substantiate every claim, you don’t have to rely on hype. You can simply show what’s possible.
Q: How do you approach building a category-defining brand in a market that is rapidly evolving?
Ken: When the world is moving at a breakneck pace, I go back to first principles. Every conversation ultimately comes back to three questions: Is it accurate? Is our data secure? How is this different from general-purpose AI? If your technology doesn’t answer those questions before customers ask them, you lack competitive edge.
That means leading with proof rather than volume: citation-backed outputs, security certifications, practitioner expertise, trusted advisors, and customers willing to stand behind the results. Then you communicate one clear message consistently until the market begins using your language to describe the category itself.
Q: What lessons from scaling scaleups are you bringing to Patlytics?
Ken: Simplicity, Clarity, and Conciseness are the principles I live by as an operator. Focus is what keeps all three intact when the temptation is to say more, launch more, or chase every new channel.
The other shift is how I lead and operate. AI is no longer something teams experiment with on the side - it’s a core part of how great teams work. The future isn’t just hiring exceptional people. It’s building teams where people and AI work together to achieve leverage that wasn’t possible a few years ago. That’s exactly the future Patlytics is building for its customers, and it’s how we’ll build internally as well.
Q: What are you most excited to build as Patlytics expands its reach across the IP landscape?
Ken: So two things. First, category-creation. Patents are how new ideas are protected and brought into the world and advancing innovation is at the heart of our mission. Everything we put out should ladder back to this mission. Making that connection clear from our brand to platform: one connected system across the entire patent lifecycle, from invention disclosure through portfolio strategy, and why that matters beyond the practice itself is critical. When the work behind IP becomes faster, more accurate, and more accessible, more innovation reaches the market. That’s the whole point of what we do, and why I’m so excited.
Second, community. The practitioners doing this work are the ones figuring out what modern IP practice looks like, firm by firm, team by team. I want Patlytics to be where they learn and collaborate. An actual community of people raising the standard together. This is the starting point. More is coming.
